my resume:
Contract Creative Director / Writer
Summoner / Dreamhaven
Jan 2024 - Current
The task here is simple: Solve the problem. For some projects it's establishing the voice and tone of a game or a studio, for others it's building a creative vision or channel strategy. Brand, creative, social, comms--I've been lucky enough to touch it all. Some highlights:
Build and execute creative strategy and projects for studios like Riot Games, Theorycraft, Tune & Fairweather, and more
Design and/or execute go-to-market plans, pitch and create social assets, plus help oversee the feedback loops and integration of notes for brand, sponsor, publishing, and creator partners
Keep client teams abreast of games industry trends in transparency, social media, creative work, and audience
Write and collaborate on announce trailers, store pages, social copy, dev comms, and web (a lot of this is NDA'd)
Director, Marketing Creative
Phoenix Labs
September 2021 - March 2023
PHX Labs offered me an opportunity to forge an in-house creative studio capable of supporting existing live service titles while simultaneously launching a packed slate of new games. The job was a mix of people management, firefighting, and priority balancing along with a healthy dose of stakeholder air traffic control for ICs, other leaders, and myriad partners.
Built and lead an international, hyper-collaborative creative team representing crafts like Unreal capture/animation, illustration, design, writing, video editing, community, social, and web development
Provided creative direction for a global multi-game portfolio including assets for social posts, proactive and reactive comms, editorial, websites, trailers, animation, physical products, in-game, etc.
Collaborated with execs and directors of corporate, brand, marketing, and product to align creative visions, set priorities, and lay the foundations needed to transform PHX Labs into a multi-game studio
Acted as an accountable conduit for addressing/implementing feedback from internal and external partners like Nintendo, PHX game teams, and brand partners
Head of Writing, Global Creative, Head of Comms, Channel, and Editorial
Riot Games
May 2015 - October 2021
In six-ish years at Riot Games I covered a lot of bases. Most recently I served as the Head of Writing for Global Marketing Creative, collaborating alongside the other hydra heads of senior leaders who oversaw video, art, design, and production as part of guiding a 300+ person organization that was always, to some degree, in overwhelming demand.
Built, staffed, and managed an award-winning writing team
Partnered with other craft heads to navigate production hurdles, shifting prios, conflict resolution, and the tricky balance between global and regional creative teams
Built core competencies, performance metrics, and job architecture for creatives
Contributed as a creative leader and stakeholder (and sometimes direct IC) on campaigns like Seraphine (a social media musician), KDA 2020, and the launches of Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, and Valorant
Helped creative ICs navigate an often-daunting web of partner needs for higher-scope campaigns where partners could be anything from Logitech to Ducati, and helped partners navigate an equally-daunting audience
Prior to that, I served as the Head of Comms, Channel, and Editorial, which covered everything from social media strategy to in-client promotions to Riot's high-velocity and high-volume dev comms.
Lead, hired, and performance managed Riot's global Content Ops, Editorial, and Channel teams
Created, product owned, and guided the evolution of Riot's multi-language editorial apparatus
Directed Riot channel strategy including global social, external/player comms, and game client
Oversaw and contributed to Riot's dev comms features and updates ranging from hype-generating previews to ranked-is-on-fire reactive comms via blogs, social media posts, videos, and in-client messages
